In honor of Juneteenth and beyond, I am going to be using this blog to amplify and support Black-Owned Businesses and Black Creatives, because due to these crucial times of the Global Health Pandemic and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, it is all the more imperative that these businesses get the support that they are often overlooked for. So in the first "Black Owned Spotlight" thread will be dedicated to a small Baltimore based clothing brand called Fly Nerd Apparel.
Fly Nerd apparel, founded by Mimi Dre, a Graphic and Screenprint designer who is also an Alumnus of Parsons School Of Design, whose brand aesthetic is modeled after herself being "Nerdy" and "Cool" or as we would say "Fly" hence the company's name.
One item, in particular, that seems to be Zendaya's favorite from the brand is the "Squad Goals" hoodie that bears the image of the tv show characters Dwayne Wayne and Ron from the iconic HBCU themed sitcom "A Different World". This is even more special considering that Kadeem Hardison who portrayed the "Dwayne Wayne" character also played Zendaya's tv dad on "K.C. Undercover". The hoodie isn't currently available but the t-shirt version is.
The clothing brand is Unisex and ranges from selling apparel and even sells cups, which you can all check out at the brand's website linked below.
